Shreya, the semester’s almost over. What have you been doing?

  1. Photography + audio: Spirit survivor
  2. On-camera + script: RWEL Eat
  3. Design + Layout: Shut up and drive
  4. Writing: From Venus with Love (Why so phallic? ; In defense of young love; Flirtipulation: A how-to; one more)
  5. Reporting: Career day
  6. Writing: Cynics GMH

Okay, so anything left to produce now?

  1. Writing + reporting + on-camera: Current events feature + video
  2. Writing: Financial breakdown of junior vs. senior prom
  3. Design + writing: Senior edition

Well, which of these was best?

I really liked the pared down, simplified look of “Shut up and drive”, which I designed with Sungwoo. I wasn’t originally enlisted to do the project, and I wasn’t involved in the reporting. What started out as a quick bit of help with Photoshop ended up with a major role in designing the project. In the end, I felt like the aesthetic was really great, and the content was really nicely highlighted.

In terms of writing, I’m proud of having written “In defense of young love”, because that was a piece I really really struggled tremendously with. I felt like I had to address the L-word at some point on my column, and I felt like the time was right, but I had a lot of random personal issues with each version of the post I wrote. So when it finally came together on that piece, I was really proud and relieved. It was kind of an elephant in the room with my blog that I finally addressed in a way that wasn’t too personal or detached.

Okay, so rate yourself.

I’d say my work this semester on the whole hasn’t been too satisfactory, mainly due to my total lack of productivity. In retrospect, I’m kind of disappointed that I let the senioritis get to me. I could say that what work I did do was good quality – and it was – but that’s not really the issue. I’m just really not pleased with my production.

Shreya, it’s been two weeks. What have you been doing?

1. Script + shooting: RWEL (currently unreleased)

2. Design + layout: Top ten movies of the decade (coming soon)

3. Writing: “Avatar” @ the Golden Globes (coming out Monday, Jan 18)

Well, which of these was the best?

I personally  liked the Avatar story best, because I felt very strongly  about Avatar’s lack of merit.

RWEL was probably the least exciting since it fell through.

Okay, so rate yourself.

A bit above “unsatisfactory”, but not quite “satisfactory”. I’m really not that satisfied. But, you know, not super dissatisfied.    :)

Stay in school, kids!

This was a super fun review to write – the only downside was that I felt like American audiences wouldn’t appreciate the movie as much as it should be because of its  atmosphere. So it was kind of challenging to try and explain it in context, without the American eye.

Super timely story. Hours apart from the Merc!

This Is It review

Jaime and I wrote a review of MJ’s “This Is It”, which never got published because it morphed into a video, then a feature, then an RWEL teaser, then a podcast, then nothing at all.   : ‘ (

From Venus, With Love: “Textual Relations”

It’s a little weird, because I’ve almost started thinking in my Venus voice. Sometimes when I see something that has the potential to inspire a post,  I start constructing it in my head. Actually, the inspiration for this post came from a friend I went to go see “An Education” with!

Funnest photos I’ve ever taken. Food photography’s my new thing, so this was ridiculously fun. And I’m proud of the result too.
